TERRY GREGG
My encaustic works are inspired by nature, stories behind words, rusty found objects and urban art. I studied art in high-school and took electives in art history and design while studying Commerce at the University of Alberta.
In 2012 I was gifted an afternoon encaustic class and was captivated; so I continued to take classes. In 2016 I established my own studio. The 2nd Floor Artist Studio can be found at the Elora Centre for the Arts in beautiful Elora, Ontario.
Encaustic medium is a mix of beeswax, dammar resin and pigment. Using heat each molten layer is fused one on top of the other. It is amenable to many mixed media possibilities. Given these qualities and options, I work accepting the outcome will be somewhat unexpected. The challenge of the encaustic medium, which can swim and swirl in unexpected ways enchants me.
